ORANGE CITY — The owners of the Daytona Beach Kennel Club and Poker Room are opening a card room and off-track betting club in a renovated old West Volusia movie theater by Feb. 1 and are hiring.
Florida's healthy gambling industry, which produces billions of dollars annually, will be getting a new addition in 2016 when Daytona Beach Kennel Club & Poker Room (DBKC) opens a location in nearby Orange City.
DKBC announced today they'll be opening a card room and sports bar in the city of about 11,000, which is roughly a half hour drive to the southwest of Daytona Beach.
'This is very exciting for both Orange City and Delaware North, and we look forward to extending the great relationship we have had in Daytona Beach to the Orange City community,' said Fred Guzman, general manager of the DBKC.
The new establishment was first proposed in late 2015 and got first approval from city officials in February of this year. The DBKC has gotten the OK to go ahead and being its $5.6 million renovation of an abandoned theater.
The new card room and sports bar is expected to put more than $6 million per year back into the community via jobs and charity work, employing around 150 people, according to the DBKC.
'We're designing what is going to be a very classy card room and sports bar — an entertainment destination that people will be very proud to see here,' Guzman said.

Poker Room Orange City Florida
This is the absolute worst, most pathetic, saddest excuse for a poker room you will ever see. I mean, it is absolutely terrible. I walked in there and gave the cashier $440. I told her I want $300 in 25s and $140 in 5s. 30 seconds later she asked me again how I wanted it, another thirty seconds later she asked me again how I wanted it. After that she put out $300 in 25s and $40 in 5s. At that point I got annoyed and asked her what was wrong with her, I told her that I gave her the breakdown several times already and I can't be any clearer. Then she had the audacity to get an attitude with me and tell me that she is not going to do it. So another cashier gave me my money correctly and I went and sat down to play poker. Several minutes later someone named Greg came up to my seat and had the audacity to kick me out of the poker room without even checking the tape to see what transpired. These people are not only grotesquely incompetent, they do not deserve anyone's business. It's honestly the worst poker room I have ever seen.
